Jack White's 5K/10K Run

A new event coming on 7th April in Wicklow is the Jack White's 5K / 10K Run. This event is organised by the same race director that has brought numerous similar events, such as the Brittas Bay Run and the Wicklow Santa Dash.

All these events are run in aid of Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital Crumlin (and when I say in aid of....all the money goes there, not a percentage!).

If you don't know the area, Jack White's Inn is an iconic landmark. And once again the organisers have done a great job with their medal design to reflect this, so I'd be confident that there will be a lot of runners out there that will want this souvenir.

Entry / Registration

There is early bird registration for this (€13 for 5K, €16 for 10K) until the end of February. However, you can get FREE entry if you take a sponsorship card for the Children's hospital.

Free entry deal:  Take a sponsor card and raise €50 for a free single entry. Or raise €80 for a free family entry (2+2).  All card holders get 1 free Crumlin T-shirt along with the medal (all entrants get the medal, not just the cardholder).

Family Day Out

Beyond the race, this should be a good day out for all the family. Entertainment mega slide bouncy castle, spider man castle, face painting, puppet show, sack race for kids, egg and spoon race for kids, kids dash 500 metres and a DJ pumping out the tunes.

FEATURE RACE - Patsy Kelly, Louth - 5K

This week the feature race of the weekend is the Patsy Kelly 5K Run in Louth. The race is in its 6th year and regularly gets a high number of votes in our "Best Short Distance Race of the Year" award. There is a maximum of 1,000 entries, and organisers expect that this number will be reached.

The first 800 entrants are guaranteed a technical tshirt and goody bag. It's a €15 entry fee and all participants will receive after race refreshments. All proceeds go to the North Louth Hospice.

Race is on at 6:30pm on Saturday 8th.

Great Island Run

10th April

Returning for it's 7th year this year is the Great Island Run, 10 mile race in Cobh, Co. Cork. (also including a 4 mile race). Expect around 600 runners for the 10 mile, and 250 for the 4 mile.

All the money raised from this race is donated to the Irish Cancer Society.

Route

This is a tough enough route, not the worst, and certainly good training. The first 2 miles are fast and downhill, the next 4 miles are pretty challenging. From mile 6 to the finish it's pretty flat, except for a slight incline around 8.5 miles. Also a nice downhill finish with views of cork harbour.

The 4 mile starts downhill and follows the last 3 miles of the 10 mile route.

Registration

Entry for the 10 Mile is €20 online or €25 on the day. Entry for the 4 Mile is €10 online or €15 on the day.

Just to reiterate, this race is run for the Irish Cancer Society, no profits are taken by organisers.

Jog for a Dog 5K

17th April

I'm a big dog lover (except when they are nipping at my heels during a run!) so I love the idea of dogs that help children with Autism. On the 17th April there is a 5K race in Castletown House, Celbridge in aid of one of these charities: My Canine Companion, autism services.

Entry

Entry is €15 online or €20 on the day. There's a juvenile entry price of €10 online or €15 on the day. Finally, walkers are welcome and they pay the same as the juvenile rate. For all entries online there's a €0.50 booking fee. Race website.
